A research project entitled " Evaluation of the effect of combination of Hesperidin, Artemisinin- Artemisia annua, Noscapine, N-acetylcysteine, Resveratrol supplements and high dose of vitamin C on treatment and clinical symptoms of outpatient and hospitalized patients with symptomatic COVID-19" was successfully completed in Imam Reza Hospital, Sirjan, Iran, in September 2020.
This project, which was designed by Iranian researchers was coducted under the supervision of Dr. Ali Amjadi, an infectious disease specialist, and Dr. Masoomeh Mohamadpour as follows:
Fifty patients with positive PCR tests were randomly selected as the intervention group and received hesperidin, Hesperidin, Artemisinin- Artemisia annua, Noscapine, N-acetylcysteine, Resveratrol supplements and a high dose of vitamin C and the control group received medications recommended by the Ministry of Health protocol.
The duration of treatment was predicted to be 10 days.
Preliminary results indicate that patients' symptoms (shortness of breath and cough) improved from the early days of treatment.
All patients in the intervention group were discharged in less than 6 days on average, and in less than ten days were successfully treated and fortunately no patient was transferred from the Acute Respiratory Department (ARD) to the ICU. There was no mortality in the intervention group.
The average hospital stay in the control group on the other hand was more than 9 days and unfortunately there was one deceased patient in the control group.
According to the results, this treatment protocol was successful at this stage, and the researchers decide to treat more patients if financial support is provided.
Final results will be published upon completion of the statistical analysis
.It is clear that more research is necessary by other investigators and the results need the approval of the food and drug administration and after approval by the food and drug administration the supplements can be used widely to treat the Covid19 patients.
